Having the same problem, on an XPS M1330, with an Intel "82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller"
No idea how this started, I was watching a film, no problems, then rebooted and now the only sound driver that works right is OSS The only thing I did since then was run my Virtualbox XP install.
