This bug seems to affect also intel 945 chipset. On a aspire one I had a drop from around 1000fps in hardy to 300-400 in Intrepid. Adding the tunning below to /etc/rc.local allowed to get some fps back, up to 630 on average. But on a netbook, every lost fps can be seen to affect overall performance. This is what I added to /etc/rc.local, after a forum tip:
