Public bug reported: I have Ubuntu (Studio) 8.10 + external mic and after infamous update my mic stopped working. My audio controller is nVidia Corporation CK804 AC'97 Audio Controller (rev a2).
I have tried the following suggestions: * remove pulseaudio, install esound, install pulseaudio back -> no luck * Configure libao applications to use PulseAudio (http://ubuntu-co.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=789578) -> lost sound alltogether and had to (remove suggested repositories and) re-install pulseaudio (and luckily got the audio back) * installing kmix (couldn't open it with terminal) * I have alsamixer set to mic1 -> no help (I have done this at esd.conf -file : when typing alsamixer to terminal I couldn't find any more options [after pressing F5] than Master and Capture.. strange) * I haven't tried to clean reinstall ALSA and the Linux sound modules because I doubt it will work (some others had tried it with little luck) And yes, day after yesterday I was happily talking with my friend with skype and then this. The problem seems to be that in sound controller the mic -option does not stay unmuted. I can't say how irritated I am for this, because earlier skype worked okey.. and now I get this update (which contents I can't remember) and things freeze like in windows. I get the sound to skype (after changing options) but no mic. Is there anyway to downgrade recent updates (whatever they are) or set the mic to unmuted in some configuration file? And if I haven't provided enough information, which are the commands to use in terminal to get more? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Microphone not working on Ubuntu 8.10 after update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303406 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
