it's a shame a thing like this one requires YEARS to be done; it's still present in rhythmbox 0.11.6 / ubuntu 8.10 intrepid ibex ubuntu should, probably, select another default music player [because this one, rhythmobx, doesn't even have an equalizer, or simple playlist sorting, or...]; even mp3blaster it's a smarter choice [my 0.02$ ]
