Thank you for the patch. I don't think there is any chance of getting a 144KB patch in.
I think there is some misunderstanding about LTS and the ubuntu release process. acng is in universe where packages are merged automatically. The LTS sticker only applies to the distro as a whole and particularly to the packages in main, not to apt-cacher-ng in particular. If we cannot come up with a minimal patch, then essentially acng will become a dead, unusable package in intrepid and hardy. This is not unlike debian stable, where I have witnessed this happening a lot of times (and even when an easy fix was easily available).
