Ubuntu intrepid i386 Linux vishnu 2.6.27-10-generic Hello
full confirm on that, my thinkpad t23 has no cable for detection. The disk connector is soldered to the mainboard. The controller can do udma100, has done this for 7.xx versions and does it when booting such old live cd. Kernel with hdX runs well, with sdX they are slow. Board and controller can do: [ 5.562716] scsi0 : ata_piix [ 5.563078] scsi1 : ata_piix [ 5.565677] ata1: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x1f0 ctl 0x3f6 bmdma 0x1860 irq 14 [ 5.565685] ata2: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x170 ctl 0x376 bmdma 0x1868 irq 15 But when detecting the disk (transcend ssd) it fails. [ 5.728373] ata1.00: ATA-8: TS8GSSD25-S, FW0625, max UDMA/100 [ 5.728383] ata1.00: 15604848 sectors, multi 0: LBA [ 5.728408] ata1.00: limited to UDMA/33 due to 40-wire cable [ 5.736757] ata1.00: configured for UDMA/33 So the ssd runs slowdowned at not as fast as possible. /dev/sda: Model=TS8GSSD25-S , FwRev=FW0625 , SerialNo=226311100010 Config={ Fixed } RawCHS=15481/16/63, TrkSize=0, SectSize=0, ECCbytes=63 BuffType=unknown, BuffSize=0kB, MaxMultSect=1, MultSect=?1? Use a very old kernel from 7.xx with lots of problems to fix this? I have no bios limitations in the machine that can be adjusted.
