I'm experiencing the same issue, and also find the "EQ overflowing"
messages in the Xorg.0.log.old.

When X crashes, no keyboard input is available, although my bluetooth
mouse is responsive, no mouse input can be recognized. A forced manual
shutdown is unavoidable.

I'm using the open source ati driver xorg-xserver-video-ati and my
graphic card is a mobility x300. I'm also using compiz. And don't know
if it important, but roughly half of the time when this lock up
happened, I was minimizing/quiting Firefox.
