The aforementioned patch was against an experimental cx88 driver that
was never committed upstream. I exchanged email with the maintainer of
this subsystem, which follows here:

Thanks for pinging me about this subject.

This patch seems to be generated against an old experimental cx88 driver that 
were
never committed.

AFAIK, nobody worked on it after that patch. I just checked at the ML and saw
an user complaining about that and offering to help on developing the patch.

I'll provide an answer for the user, suggesting some things that he can
do it.

Those info may also be useful for you, if you want to help on adding
support for that board.

hardware in order to add the driver to the kernel.
