Public bug reported:

System: Desk top pentium 4 2mghz with ubuntu 8.10 every thing works fine exept
for the sound. on startup at the line that says "setting the system clock" my
speakers emit a ??cycles sound with noise. When the ubuntu program is loaded
and i lower the sound so has not to hear the noise and play a CD everything
works, i get music but the level is low and if i raise the volume the noise is
in with the music.
What does "setting the system clock" do? and is it possible to remove it
without affecting the system?

Had a bit of problem installing ubuntu due to disk format, lost my
windows and every thing else, but after reformatting the disk properly.
installed windows xp home edition and after installed ubuntu and had no
other problem except for the sound. Thank u very much for a very nice
package and after the problem is fixed i think that i will enjoy ubuntu
very much.
