Public bug reported: I installed oss-compat to gain the /dev/dsp device, which is required for audio with VMware. After rebooting, the device is gone. I have temporarily worked around this by adding:
dpkg-reconfigure oss-compat to /etc/rc.local, which reestablishes the environment Ubuntu jaunty (development branch), Release: 9.04 oss-compat: Installed: 0.0.4+nmu1 Candidate: 0.0.4+nmu1 Version table: *** 0.0.4+nmu1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/universe Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: oss-compat (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: I installed oss-compat to gain the /dev/dsp device, which is required for audio with VMware.
