I tried everything I could, including stuff I probably shouldn't have touched,
thinking I would re-install Hardy. Yesterday I added the network monitor and a
notification area to the top panel. I got a new menu separator, a thing that
tells me that I'm using an English keyboard and...........................the
network manager applet!!!!!! I clicked on wireless and hey presto, I'm finally
online.
Maybe this may help somebody else - I hope so.
Maybe it would be a good idea to be able to enable wireless without using
network manager?
