Hello The problem is now solved for me using the command "xrandr --auto" (but still pressing Fn+F8 don't work)
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400, running Ubuntu 8.10 (upgraded from 8.04 that is upgraded from 7.10) I'm so happy cause I hava a presentation 5 hours later!
