I have almost the same laptop as neu (the first reporter), meaning a kohjinsha SH8 (only the processor is different). And I have the same issue. Also, like neu, I think the issue reported in the comment above are different as in our case the computer doesn't respond to ssh so it is not only a problem of X or of backlight. I will try to debug it following http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Documentation/power/basic-pm-debugging.txt and post the result as soon as possible. I tried the first test but nothing work... Last thing suspend and hibernate used to work in Hardy
