FYI I had an issue mentioned here, *crackling sound*, in *all applications*, after an update in Ubuntu Intrepid. (on two intel machines, x86, 32-bit and 64-bit)
Opening volume control and increasing the PCM channel volume above min fixed the 'issue'.
