I believe an unfortunately side effect of having PPAs is that people just add them to their systems and don't spend the time to have the issue resolved in the mainline distribution resulting in bugs like this becoming stalled.
Unfortunately I don't know the procedure to push this bug onwards otherwise I would do my best to assist.
