** Summary changed: - No option to warn user about laptop battery being critically low + No option to warn user about laptop battery being low
** Description changed: I am running Ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop (Acer Extensa 4630). I noticed once the battery dries up the laptop shuts down without giving any warning to me. What I would expect ubuntu to do is prompt me saying the power of the battery is low and it needs to be recharged. Currently I - dono't see any such warning messages except the battery icon on the - panel show a decreasing percentage of power. + donot see any such warning messages except the battery icon on the + pannel show a decreasing percentage of power. - I have put the same question in the forum and was suggested to tryout - the options available when I right click on the battery and go to - preferences. What I noticed these options are viable when the laptop is - running normally + I have put the same question to the forum (Question #51524), I was suggested to try out the options available when I right click on the battery and check the preferances. What I noticed these options are applicable only when the laptop is running, there is no special option provided to warn the user when the battery power is critically low. + Now my points are: - thanks in advance!! + 1. Is this happening because Ubuntu 8.04 was NOT specially built for laptops? + 2. Should this feature be provided by the OS or the hardware? + + I have once used Lenovo thinkpad with Windows XP, there I noticed user + prompts asking user to recharge the battery. It will be great to have + the same with Ubuntu. + + Thanks!! ** Tags added: battery laptop low warning -- No option to warn user about laptop battery being low https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298787 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
