And by the way: I used 8.04 on my Desktop PC and it listed a modem device which was not installed. I reported this bug and the modem device is not listed anymore. But now I use 8.10 on my Laptop and my Laptop has a modem device. But the network manager does NOT detect this device. Additionaly it shows a dsl-modem, which is also not installed in my laptop. Please fix that bug: Ubuntu shall detect a modem device, if it is there and should NOT detect one, if it is not there! The same is valid for WLAN and ethernet devices: Only list them, if they are installed!
