I have this same issue when attempting to use the SD card slot in my Dell Latitude X1 under Edgy. Interestingly I only see it for some SD cards: a 512MB Kingston card works fine, but a SanDisk Ultra-II 2GB card always crashes it. A KeyMem 2GB 133x (incredibly cheap) card also crashes it. There don't appear to be any useful log messages.
