Hi Julien, Thanks for filing this bug. There are two ways you can help
even if ubuntu does not work out of the box. One option is to install
using the "alternate CD" (in your case write the alternate iso image to
a usb key). This installs ubuntu using only text-based menus. You then
have an installed system where you can change files, using text mode if
the graphical mode still doesn't work.

The other (easier?) option is to use the "Try ubuntu without installing"
option you get when you start from your usb key.

If you cannot see the graphical interface, you can use text-interface by
pressing Ctrl+Alt+F2.

In any case, what we will need to see what is going on behind the black screen 
is the following:
- /var/log/Xorg.0.log
- the outut of `lspci -vvnn` (write to a file with `lspci -vvnn >outfile.txt`)
If you change the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf (e.g. to try the options suggested by 
krassus), we will need that file as well.
