Sounds to me like you were using ndiswrapper for ipw3945. Is that correct? If so, you need to not use that anymore, since it conflicts with the actual ipw3945 driver that is now present. Also, please make sure to run the command I specified. I am not familier with wlanassist, so this just may be a bug in that program.
