  Writing to a blank 8GB ext2 formatted usb drive, usb-creator crashed
  with the error given in the summary. Afraid I'm not sure what the
  percentage completion was as I set it going then went to have a
  shower...

+ UPDATE: I have since run the usb-creator again on exactly the same setup
+ and the process completed successfully. The only difference between the
+ two attempts was that the first time I left the computer unattended, so
+ the display put itself to sleep at some point. Don't know if that could
