I have the same problem on dapper with kde-3.5.5. I tried the solution from https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/kdebase/+bug/65662/comments/20 and it does not work. I have hal (and libhal1) 0.5.7-1ubuntu18.2
Is there anything else I can try?
