I got no suggestions/feedback when posting this question on the netdev-
list, but I have done some experimenting with msi disabling for affected
devices in order to produce a (preliminary) patch. What I would like to
know is if there are other motherboards than the Asus P5N32-SLI Premium
which are affected by this. I also would like to know if any of you have
the Asus P5N32-SLI motherboard with other, working msi-enabled devices
(to find out if this may be a global msi problem or limited to the
MCP55-NIC).

You can find out if a device has active msi by doing 'cat /proc/interrupts'. An 
"IO_APIC" is a pin-signalled device, while 
"PCI-MSI" represents msi-enabled devices.
