First, it is not a duplicate. Second, the solution proposed in the earlier bug is not only to change the resolution, but to also install uvcvideo. But I demand, where is this module in the Ubuntu repositories. If it is required for cheese webcam to work, how did Ubuntu, irresponsibly ship the software without packaging it and keeping it in the repositories? It does not exist there. It did not work even when I installed luvcview and other uvc related modules in Ubuntu.
Further, I even tried installing uvcvideo using the following steps: svn checkout svn://svn.berlios.de/linux-uvc/linux-uvc/trunk cd trunk make make install And now, I restarted the machine. Cheese webcam still does not record my video. So here is the terminal output of cheese webcam: ** Message: Error: Stream contains no data. gsttypefindelement.c(785): gst_type_find_element_activate (): /GstPlayBin:play/GstDecodeBin:decodebin0/GstTypeFindElement:typefind: Can't typefind empty stream ** (cheese:6213): WARNING **: could not generate thumbnail for /home/blackmaster/Videos/Webcam/2008-11-11-231847.ogv (video/ogg) ** Message: Error: Stream contains no data. gsttypefindelement.c(785): gst_type_find_element_activate (): /GstPlayBin:play/GstDecodeBin:decodebin0/GstTypeFindElement:typefind: Can't typefind empty stream ** (cheese:6213): WARNING **: could not generate thumbnail for /home/blackmaster/Videos/Webcam/2008-11-11-232945.ogv (video/ogg) Killed Here I have attached, dpkg-l, lspci-vnn and will provide you any other information you want - just ask for it. But please. fix this. This is frustrating. Video works perfectly on Skype. ** Attachment added: "dpkg-l.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19585590/dpkg-l.log -- Cheese doesn't work properly in Intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289242 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
