It seems that this bug is not limited to the 64bit package. I have the 1.9.1-2 gtk2 version installed(precompiled) on a 32bit Ubuntu Feisty and I am seeing the same bug. I installed the gtk version and the bug does not appear there. This seems to fly in the face of some reports in the upstream bug but its what I am seeing. If it might be of any help - I am only seeing this bug in text box in the Messages section. All other text input seems to be fine.
