I am currently using the 8.10 latest release and I have this problem also. My machine is a Dell Inspiron 6000. My drive is an NEC DVD+-RW, model # ND-6500A. I tried to burn a Maxcell DVD-R (which have never given me any problems in the past) using Brasero, K3b, and the built-in burning functions of Ubuntu.
