I got the exact same error message when I mistyped a command. This must
have something to do with the non-standard (i.e. non US) locale. I've
got Hardy installed entirely in Polish (for my mom), but I got this
while logged in as myself. I changed my user's locale to US English.
It's not perfect, I'd rather have everything in English, but I'm not the
primary user - I only log in remotely to do updates :). This error is
reproducible using my account, but does not occur when logged in as my
mom (in Polish).
