Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-notifier
This started in 8.4, I recently upgraded to 8.10 and it still exhibits the same behavior. update-notifier: Installed: 0.71.8 Candidate: 0.71.8 Version table: *** 0.71.8 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status When updates are available by running System->Admin->Update Manager I don't get the update icon in the upper panel.
