I followed the directions on

     sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-2.6.27-7-generic

     sudo apt-get install subversion build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r) 
&&
     wget http://linuxtv.org/hg/~jfrancois/gspca/archive/tip.tar.bz2 &&
     tar xf tip.tar.bz2 && cd gspca-* &&
     make &&
     sudo make install &&
     sudo depmod -ae $(uname -r)

and cheese is now working on every resolution. However, if I try to take
a picture or a video, it freezes, even at lowest resolutions. I have a
Dell 1525n updated to Ubuntu 8.10.
