Sorry.  I should have reported that I solved the problem with the help
of the developer, Ingo Klocker.  Turned out that the expiration
feature was triggering a crash in a folder which had a corrupted
index.

I turned off all expirations.  Then I went into each of the folders
and re-enabled it.  When I reached the folder with the corrupted
index. the program crashed with the same error.

Deleting the index for that folder solved the problem.

Thank you for taking my problem seriously.  Do you want me to post the
foregoing at the launchpad.net site for the original bug?
