Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz-fusion-plugins-extra

Running latest (as of date) versions of Ubuntu 8.10 on an

I was running with the "Extra" visual effects set through Appearance. On
top of this, I had enabled "Rotate Cube" (and thus disabled Desktop
Wall, and enabled Desktop Cube). Like this:

Appearance -> Visual Effects -> Extra
-Desktop Wall
+Desktop Cube
+Rotate Cube

The setup worked with active usage for several hours since boot. I can't seem
to recreate the problem.
I can't remember doing anything out of the ordinary when suddenly all windows
had been collected on the same workspace - and it became clear to me that
compiz had crashed and metacity took its place. (excellent with a fallback!)

$ dmesg|grep compiz
[18112.937250] compiz.real[5663]: segfault at 10 ip b713de40 sp bfa07730 error
4 in libexpo.so[b713a000+a000]

Re-enabling the compiz desktop worked straight away after the crash.
Settings (cube stuff) were reset, but that's probably because I did it
using the Visual Effects tab in Appearance.
