I'm under Kubuntu 8.10, upgraded from 8.04 (spanish). I recently installed a SATA DVD and I'm having a similar problem. Something I noted while looking through this is that my paralell ata HD is not hda, but sda, but that doesn't affect the way it works. I think that's why the dvd gets reported as scsi instead of sata.
I'm on a Asus A7N8X deluxe revision 2.0, Nforce 2 chipset. uname -r 2.6.27-7-generic sudo lshw -C disk *-cdrom description: SCSI CD-ROM physical id: 0.0.0 bus info: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:0.0.0 logical name: /dev/cdrom2 logical name: /dev/scd0 logical name: /dev/sr0 capabilities: audio configuration: status=ready *-disk description: ATA Disk product: Maxtor 6Y080L0 vendor: Maxtor physical id: 0.0.0 bus info: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:0.0.0 logical name: /dev/sda version: YAR4 serial: Y24R5FNE size: 76GiB (81GB) capabilities: partitioned partitioned:dos configuration: ansiversion=5 signature=05ad05ad ls /dev -l | grep cd lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 2008-11-08 07:22 cdrom2 -> scd0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root tty 2, 221 2008-11-08 07:22 ptycd brw-rw----+ 1 root cdrom 11, 0 2008-11-08 07:22 scd0 crw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 21, 0 2008-11-08 07:22 sg0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 2008-11-08 07:22 sr0 -> scd0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root tty 3, 221 2008-11-08 07:22 ttycd sudo hdparm -I /dev/scd0 /dev/scd0: ATAPI CD-ROM, with removable media Model Number: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200S Firmware Revision: 1.60 Standards: Likely used CD-ROM ATAPI-1 Configuration: DRQ response: 50us.
