Hi guys, I have the same problem since yesterday. I am not sure if this is due to a hard drive failure or a kernel upgrade (I am using 2.6.24-19-generic on a Ubuntu 8.04).
The messages I get in /var/log/messages are : Nov 8 19:17:50 odeon kernel: [ 5895.216562] res 40/00:00:00:4f:c2/00:01:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x4 (timeout) Nov 8 19:17:50 odeon kernel: [ 5895.216580] res 40/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x4 (timeout) Nov 8 19:17:50 odeon kernel: [ 5895.216599] res 40/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x4 (timeout) Nov 8 19:17:50 odeon kernel: [ 5895.216617] res 40/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x4 (timeout) Nov 8 19:17:50 odeon kernel: [ 5895.216635] res 40/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x4 (timeout) Nov 8 19:17:50 odeon kernel: [ 5895.216653] res 40/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x4 (timeout) Nov 8 19:17:50 odeon kernel: [ 5895.216670] res 40/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x4 (timeout) Nov 8 19:17:50 odeon kernel: [ 5895.216688] res 40/00:00:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x4 (timeout) Nov 8 19:17:50 odeon kernel: [ 5895.528718] ata1: soft resetting link Nov 8 19:17:55 odeon kernel: [ 5900.728870] ata1: port is slow to respond, please be patient (Status 0xd0) Nov 8 19:18:00 odeon kernel: [ 5905.538192] ata1: hard resetting link Nov 8 19:18:06 odeon kernel: [ 5911.046524] ata1: port is slow to respond, please be patient (Status 0x80) Nov 8 19:18:10 odeon kernel: [ 5915.577217] ata1: hard resetting link Nov 8 19:18:16 odeon kernel: [ 5921.088562] ata1: port is slow to respond, please be patient (Status 0x80) Nov 8 19:18:45 odeon kernel: [ 5950.568605] ata1: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps Nov 8 19:18:45 odeon kernel: [ 5950.568610] ata1: hard resetting link Nov 8 19:18:47 odeon kernel: [ 5952.329175] ata1: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) Nov 8 19:18:47 odeon kernel: [ 5952.331304] ata1.00: ACPI cmd f5/00:00:00:00:00:a0 filtered out Nov 8 19:18:47 odeon kernel: [ 5952.335164] ata1.00: ACPI cmd f5/00:00:00:00:00:a0 filtered out Nov 8 19:18:47 odeon kernel: [ 5952.336615] ata1.00: configured for UDMA/100 Nov 8 19:18:47 odeon kernel: [ 5952.336656] ata1: EH complete Nov 8 19:18:47 odeon kernel: [ 5952.336788] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] 234441648 512-byte hardware sectors (120034 MB) Nov 8 19:18:47 odeon kernel: [ 5952.336813] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Write Protect is off Nov 8 19:18:47 odeon kernel: [ 5952.336856] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA The computer crashes sometimes, but not always.
