I think this problem might be caused by the existing grub multiboot
partition being back-level compared to the expectations of the intrepid
installer, but I don't know enough to investigate further.

I noticed that when I merged the intrepid grub menu.lst boot lines back
into my existing hardy-based grub boot partition, then intrepid would
not boot. The grub boot error was because intrepid uses the "new" UUID
grub statement, but the hardy grub does not recognise it and so cant
boot the intrepid image. I simply reverted the intrepid statements to
the "old" syntax and intrepid multi-boots fine.
