Public bug reported:

I'm running ubuntu 8.10 from a thumb drive without installing to HD.
However, I'd like to be able to do all the normal patches, etc. My
thumb drive is only 2GB and is not large enough to perform a full
install. The update failed during post install with the error that
because it's a CD image. It looks like the image is build but were not
able to put into position simply because some internal check because it
think it is a CD image (even though it is actually on a writable media).

Hope this help.
