The bug lies in ALSA. However, in the case of systems with pulseaudio enabled, we can work around this by making sure pulseaudio (and hence everything else) lets go of the sound card just before suspending, and then grabs it again after resuming. In your case, make sure nothing is accessing the sound card (most media players still access the sound card when paused) before you suspend, then try resuming. In the first place, how come you don't have pulseaudio running?
