I have just changed the 'Summary' line of this bug, in order to better reflect the nature of the problem.
BTW - I now cannot even boot my laptop into the Intrepid install. After my last post, I ran update-manager and also installed envyng from Synaptic to get nvidia drivers working because Restricted Drivers Manager wouldn't do it. Then, when I tried to boot it again later, it kept hanging. I pressed the power button several times to get it to 'continue' until the boot status bar got to the end - then it proceeded to shut down gracefully without ever going to the login screen. I did that a couple of times, same result. Maybe I will try pressing <Enter> or another button to get it to actually boot up. But the problem needs to be fixed. I don't have any problems at all with my two older desktops at home - just this laptop.
