Same problem here, ilowman and dipsol's fix work. I would describe it as flickering though, it's more like every 10 sec. or so the mode of the monitor is changed. I think the randrmonitor module queries the VGA port every time which results in the "flickering". For example, if I run xrandr (from shell) without options to see what is connected, I get the same result.
