My Kubuntu 8.10 dialog looks little different, it is slightly more localized 
(Font style is localized) and different (no checkboxes). But I can confirm this 
issue. Maybe there are two different issues:
1. wrong fonts may be installed (therefore Ubuntu Desktop Team should solve it 
I guess)
2. Italic is wrongly translated to Normal, therefore it collides with common 
Normal and it is causing trouble. Someone should check this in KDE translation 
catalogues. (But if I select Sans Serif font there is Italic translated as 
Skloněné, which is ok. Normal is still missing though.)
