Public bug reported: I'd updated my Ubuntu Server 8.04 to 8.10, after the reboot the server get stuck while booting: ---- * Setting the system clock Cannot access the Hardware Clock via any known method. Use the --debug option to see the details of our search for an access method. * Unable to set System Clock to: Tue Nov 4 16:30:30 UTC 2008 ----
At that point the server will stop booting (even after 2 hours), so i'd pressed ctrl+alt+del to see what happens. Then the server continues it's boot (somehow), but then i'm missing (at least) the /home and the /var/log folders. For an detailed image of how the server hangs, see this image: http://dev.kingofdos.com/tmp/ubuntu810-serverproblem.jpg Note: Not added as Attachment, thats limited to one file(??), so my lspci is located there. Because the /var/log is not mounted, I don't have a syslog at this point, so I can't figure out what to do or how to debug. As hardware I'm using a HP Prolaint DL380 G2 (or G3?), with an Intel P3 1300 as CPU. If I'll choose to boot an earlier kernel (from grub) then the server works normal. So that's what I did at this point, to rescue my server for a little while. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [2.6.27-7-server] cannot access hardware clock https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294382 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
