Public bug reported:

Windows Media Center will place recorded shows in dvr-ms files, which I am able
to view via VLC. After upgrading to ubuntu 8.10 from 8.4, I find that I am not
able to view very large dvr-ms files, which are around 7 GB in size. At the
moment I do not know where the tipping point is in file size, but I can view
2.4 GB files without any problems.
With the large files, the problem occurs somewhere past the halfway point and
once it is reached, VLC will skip back to the beginning of the file. You can
not use the slider to go past the point of failure.
