Public bug reported: Since I have upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid (GNOME), my microphone doesn't work anymore. I never had any problems with it in hardy, even Windows applications in wine could use the microphone.
It's a simple headset microphone plugged to the sound card (no usb). I've tried the GNOME soundrecorder, ekiga and some wine applications, but nothing worked. My sound system is switched to ALSA. When I open the sound mixer in Intrepid, the microphone is switched off. So I switch in on, but after closing and reopening the sound mixer, it is switched off again. Since there are a lot of users in our german Ubuntu-Forum reporting the same problem (for instance http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/mikrofon- funktioniert-unter-8.10-nicht/), I guess, this bug is not related to a special sound card.
