augias, if you want to be safe, use the sysrq keys to make the kernel
kill everything nicely.

do the following: keep alt-PrnScr pressed, and hit one by one the following 
letters:
R
E
I
S
U
B

that will gracefully make the kernel shutdown, protecting your data.
about this bug. i havent been feeling it lately, and i have not applied
any of the fixes proposed.
