A lot of what you said is over my head, however I can tell you that I get the
shutdown splash screen with the "moving bar" that shows shut down progress. At
about the one third point it hangs. I'm thinking I might re-install 8.10. I am
dual booting XP home/sp3 & Ubuntu using Grub. Does not matter I its shutdown or
restart.

How to succeed in life:

Be where you are supposed to be.

Be doing what you are supposed to be doing.

Be there on time.

Hi,
Having updated to Intrepid I would notice that I don't run into this bug by
now.

After some investigation I'm wondering myself if in my case this could not
come from some wrong dependencies int he stop process of the following
gdman>,r>NetworkMagager, nis, autofs and nfs
gdm stops NM which break nis link to the server which cuts auto.home map for
autofs and then nfs is completely lost. But gdm cannot process its next step
because something did not finish for him and then blinking cursor
Or maybe I'm wrong ...
