Robert, the Ubuntu team verifyied that the patch was in. Somebody else broke it.
It is a tricky issue, since it appears that it *only* happens with certain NVidia chipsets and certain Pioneer DVD drives. Not so easy. Neither kernel developers, nor the Ubnutu team can test all HW combinations possible.
