i got the printer working with the cups web interface. sorry i cannot reproduce which package/whatever make the old settings broken.
but i found another bug: if you use the "System->Administration->Printing"-New Printer dialog it takes up to 20-30 sec till the dialog appear. if you do not now that, you think nothing will happen and you will click the "New Printer" icon again and again.
