I'm not completely certain my bug is the same, but it is close enough
not to file a separate bug report. I have Kubuntu 8.04 and tried to
upgrade to 8.10 over the Net. Following the instructions at
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading for Kubuntu, I ran the command
kdesu "adept_manager --dist-upgrade-devel" and followed the prompts. The
process continued successfully through the "preparing to upgrade" step,
and then almost at the end of the "setting new software channels" it
crashed. An image of the Distribution Upgrade window and popup error
window are attached. The text of the error message is as follows:

Error during update
A problem occurred during the update. This is usually some sort of network
problem, please check your connection and retry.

I did this three times, and three times the same error message appeared.
