Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libpng12-0
1. update ubuntu 6.10 package libpng12-0 to 1.2.8rel-5.1ubuntu0.1 (released to repository on or before Nov. 18 when I first installed it) 2. both firefox and epiphany fail on some web links to .jpg or .png files 2.1 open http://www.gnomefiles.org/app.php/galaxy 2.2 click on link "Screenshots" (upper left on page) 2.3 instead of image, you get a text window with URL of image file 3. replace files /usr/lib/libpng12.a and /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0.1.2.8 using files from previous libpng12-0 version 1.2.8rel-5.1 4. reboot to get working version of browser 5. repeat test in step 2 - now it works OK Notes: 1. both dapper and original version of edgy work OK - the problem appears to be the updated package libpng12-0 2. I first tried forcing the earlier version of libpng12-0 using synaptic, but this forced the removal of libgtk2.0-dev, which could not be re-installed without the new, defective version of libpng12-0, therefore I did the kludgy file replacements described above ** Affects: libpng (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- ver. 1.2.8rel-5.1ubuntu0.1 causes browsers to fail on links to .png or .jpg files https://launchpad.net/bugs/72411 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
