I can also verify this bug. I'm actually using Kubuntu edgy, but
probably this has nothing to do with the DE.

I have a suggestion: I've found this bug in the OOo database that may be
the cause of the error:

>From what I've read there, it may be because of bad packaging of the
libxml2 library. Specifically, there are two XML parsers: SAX1 and SAX2.
Starting with 2.6.17, libxml2 defaults to SAX2, whereas previously it
was SAX1. According to the but report, libxml2 must now be compiled with
"--with_sax1=yes" in order to work with OOo. Can the ubuntu packagers
confirm that libxml2 has SAX1 support in it?
