I updated my Lenovo Z61p (hardy) to kde 4.1. Everything's working with a single Monitor (actually only with the Laptop display), but with an external monitor connected (which, against the specs, still needs a xserver reset) the desktop effects don't work and the system config for them hangs up. I used jokey for the configuration which worked pretty well - as always - and I don't have xserver-xgl installed. Neither have I compiz. I attached the xorg log. If you want to have the xorg config just say so.
P.S.: Dunno about direct rendering.
